Resumen
La arquitectura de las iglesias católicas está constituida de forma que sólo es posible interpretarla a través de su contexto ritual, cultural e histórico. Este estudio contempla los cambios en las relaciones entre la comunidad de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires y la institución católica entre el siglo XVII al XX, enfocada en sólo dos aspectos de éstas: la vinculación entre lo sagrado-profano y los ritos de pasaje. Para el análisis de estas dos esferas se realizó un estudio de la distribución espacial de los objetos fijos y semifijo como la jerarquización de los espacios interiores de cinco templos, observando sus interconexiones, la distancia entre ellos y el grado de ocultamiento de los objetos de cada área. En cada una de las parroquias se destacó un cambio en la relación entre lo sagrado-profano a través del tiempo, una progresiva disolución de los límites entre estos ambientes. En cuanto a los ritos de pasaje, sus componentes van posicionándose cada vez más cerca del espacio sagrado por excelencia. Estas modificaciones en los aspectos materiales y espaciales manifiestan no sólo un cambio en el comportamiento y la concepción de lo sagrado y los ritos de transición, sino que reflejan momentos de tensión y cohesión entre los feligreses y la Iglesia Católica , condicionados por la coyuntura histórica.

Material Culture and Religion: Archaeology of the Catholic religious architecture of Buenos Aires , centuries XVII-XX
Abstract
The architecture of Catholic churches is made up so that only you can interpret it through his ritual context, cultural and historical. This study provides the change in relationships between the community of the City of Buenos Aires and the Catholic institution among the seventeenth century to century, focused in only two aspects of these: the link between the sacred-profane and rites of passage. For the analysis of these two areas a study of the spatial distribution of objects and semi-fixed as the ranking of the interior spaces of five temples, noting their interconnections, the distance between them and the degree of concealment of objects of each area. In each of the parishes highlighted a change in the relationship between the sacred-profane over time, a gradual dissolution of boundaries between these environments. As for the rites of passage, its components are increasingly positioning itself near the sacred space par excellence. These changes in material respects and space manifested not only a change in behaviour and design and the sacred rites of transition, but reflect moments of tension and cohesion among parishioners and the Catholic Church, conditioned by the historical juncture.
